Arizona Patent of the Month – November 2022
Classic cars are a prized commodity, with many enthusiasts regularly restoring and preserving classic styles. These classics are designed differently from much of today’s vehicles. One difference is the suspension system. Classic vehicles are typically designed with suspension systems that use leaf springs which help to absorb vertical loads applied to the axle through the wheels. This design was largely moved away from since the forces applied to one wheel are transferred to the wheel on the other side. Unfortunately, modern suspension systems don’t lend themselves well to retaining the “classic” look.
Nate’s Hot Rod Garage, LLC has designed a new suspension system that improves on the functionality of a classic suspension while maintaining the aesthetics. Their center pivot suspension design uses a multi-piece axle with control arms. The control arms are pivotally connected to a center beam section of the axle. Each control arm can pivot about the center section independently. A spring control system helps to absorb loads while driving. The spring control system is coupled with each control arm. Between the individual, pivotal control arms and the spring control system, the design ensures any force applied to one wheel does not impact the other.
Nate’s Hot Rod Garage is a Hot Rod shop focused on directing their expertise to creating quality rebuilds and restorations. It’s this experience that contributes to the design of innovative solutions. Retaining that classic look is always desirable, but combining that with modern functionality is the total package.
