Connecticut Patent of the Month – December 2022
Air quality plays a significant role in our day to day health. From allergens, like fur and dust, to mold spores and bacteria, indoor environments are much more likely to have a concentration of contaminants. PuraClenz, LLC’s air purification systems use Photocatalytic Oxidation (PCO) technology which uses a metal oxide catalyst, irradiated light, and fluids to improve indoor air quality.
Traditional PCO technology relies on the creation of a photocatalytic surface by irradiating the metal oxides with UV light. PuraClenz sets themselves apart by creating a higher efficiency design through a specialty cell structure. Their cell design generates an exceptionally high density of ozone-free ions to deactivate indoor pollutants without producing any harmful byproducts. Their cell design prevents the need for circulating air through a filter and can deactivate pathogens mid-air next to people in the room.
The company further improves on PCO designs, increasing the efficiency of the system, by optimizing the shape, controlling fluid pressure and improving the photocatalytic reaction. The use of aerodynamic airfoil shapes that reduce drag across the surface of the photocatalytic coating, reducing turbulence and backpressure. It’s this domino effect that improves the overall efficiency. Between the efficiency and the certified zero ozone status, the company is making waves in the indoor air cleaning industry.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
