Georgia Patent of the Month – December 2022

Practice is the key. Whether improving your ability as an individual or as a team, the only way to get better is through continuous practice. Considering how crucial a quarterback’s ability to throw and catch is, this is often a key focus in practice. Envelope Sports, LLC has designed a tool that aids in this practice on an individual level so that the quarterback can grow their skills on their own schedule.

Their device allows the quarterback to practice throwing to a pass catcher running any specific play. This means the device must match the speed of the quarterback and make sharp pre-programmed turns and direction reversals. In order to achieve this, the company developed a ground drone-based sports training system. The drones are electrically operated ground vehicles which act as a pass target. It’s these drones that are designed with the speed and agility to keep up with the quarterback and the pre-programmed play.

The drone uses computer vision and speed detecting sensors to track and monitor objects and potential obstacles. A mast motor supports the rapid and sharp rotation needed to emulate other players during a play. Envelope Sports, LLC is set on supporting quarterbacks as they advance their skillset, making every game the best game.
