Hawaii Patent of the Month – June 2021

Vasper Systems, LLC has designed an exercise system that utilizes compression technology, liquid cooling, and interval training to give the user a high intensity workout without the stress or time needed for conventional exercise. Their system uses a fluid-carrying bladder which works to compress a wearable cuff. The user wears this cuff around their arms and legs to build up lactic acid – a method which mimics an intense workout. They’ve recently been developing this fluidic bladder system, working to improve efficiency and functionality.

Before, a pressure sensor was positioned remotely from the bladder. This displacement introduced an offset between fluid density and elevation between the sensor and bladder. This offset impacts the amount of cooled fluid that circulates and reduces efficiency. They have redesigned this through the inclusion of a better pressure measurement and control system. A reservoir with chilled water is coupled to a speed pump and a fluid line. A pressure sensor is positioned at a set elevation above the reservoir. This indicates the speed and volume of fluid to circulate and the speed pump draws the cooled fluid through the fluid line to the cuff bladder, circulating through an outlet fluid line and back to the reservoir. This improved pressure sensor system better controls coolant fluid and improves the effects of their exercise system.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
