Hawaii Patent of the Month – October 2022

A mixed drink is a refreshing way to get a tasty beverage. While mixing your own is one solution, many suppliers want to be able to provide pre-mixed cans. Unfortunately, this can be quite complex depending on the liquids to be mixed as they may have adverse reactions. For instance, preemptively mixing two liquids might cause an increase in carbonation which the can cannot handle without being opened. Finding a way to keep these liquids separate is no easy feat for can manufacturers. In-Can, LLC has patented a solution.

Their can design allows for two liquids to be successfully stored without mixing until the can is opened. Their design maintains this separation up to the point of exit from the can. The can has two separate internal reservoirs. The opening mechanism resembles a traditional can opener which effectively removes a seal from the first reservoir. This ensures both liquids can be dispensed simultaneously.
