Maryland Patent of the Month – January 2024

In the dynamic realm of communication technologies, Rampart Communications, Inc. has unveiled a novel approach to multiple access communications. The company is focused on building the tools and technologies needed to bring security, privacy, reliability, and capacity to communication whether for individuals, businesses, or government agencies.

Multiple access communication systems have user devices transmit signals over a given communication channel to a receiver. Rampart Communications has designed a system that improves both security and performance, using very large multiple-in multiple-out (MIMO) antenna systems with extremely large class of fast unitary transformations

The system uses a processor to control the plethora of antennas. Each incoming signal or data is transformed into a symbol by the processor based on a codebook of transformation matrices. The second communication device, the endpoint, also has access to the codebook and, upon receiving the transformed symbols, translates these back into the original data. This process creates an incredibly secure and fast communication method.

Other MIMO systems have faced problems wherein as the number of antennas increases, the complexity of the matrix multiplications grows. Rampart Communications’ solution overcomes this, leveraging incredibly fast unitary matrices to ensure a standard system can manage the scaling processing and complexity.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
