Missouri Patent of the Month – July 2023

BioMed Valley Discoveries, Inc., is a clinical stage biotechnology company with a mission to address unmet patient needs across a wide spectrum of diseases. One avenue of research is a method of treating and ameliorating the effects of melanoma in subjects with somatic NRAS mutations. This innovative and newly patented method involves the administration of a synergistic combination of two anti-cancer agents, BVD-523 and Palbociclib, demonstrating a superior efficacy compared to the use of either agent alone.

Melanoma, a type of skin cancer, is known for its aggressive nature and resistance to conventional treatments. However, with the advent of targeted therapies, scientists have been able to identify specific genetic mutations responsible for the development and progression of melanoma. The discovery of somatic NRAS mutations in melanoma patients paved the way for a more personalized and effective treatment approach.

BioMed Valley Discoveries has developed a treatment approach which targets underlying genetic abnormalities. By administering BVD-523 and Palbociclib in combination, a synergistic effect is achieved, resulting in improved treatment outcomes. This synergistic effect means that the combined treatment is more effective in combating melanoma than either drug is on its own.

BioMed Valley Discoveries engages in research and development projects with intent to address unmet clinical needs across a variety of diseases and therapy modalities. A Phase II Study of BVD-523 in Metastatic Uveal Melanoma is currently underway, as the company works to prove the viability of their treatment in real-life applications.
