New Hampshire Patent of the Month – September 2023

Medical devices are essential tools in healthcare settings, but ensuring their cleanliness and safety for reuse can be a significant challenge. Devices with complex inner passageways, such as hoses and tubes, pose particular difficulties. These hard-to-reach areas can become breeding grounds for bacteria, mold, and other microorganisms, making proper cleaning and sterilization crucial.

SoClean Inc. has recently been granted a patent for a device that addresses these limitations. Their novel solutions enable institutions like hospitals and surgical centers to clean, disinfect, and sterilize multiple medical devices effectively. What sets SoClean apart is their ability to clean not only the outer surfaces of these devices but also their inner passageways, hoses, and tubes.

Their latest patent employs the use of ozone gas – a powerful agent for disinfection and sterilization. SoClean has harnessed ozone’s potential to provide safe and efficient reprocessing of medical devices using ozone gas generators and containers that can house medical devices, such as CPAP masks and hoses.

The company has also integrated advanced features into their systems, including real-time cycle feedback and indicators to signal when a sanitizing cycle is complete. These features ensure that the devices are not only thoroughly cleaned but also safe for reuse.

SoClean addresses the different risk levels associated with medical device reuse. Critical devices, like surgical instruments, demand stringent sterilization, while semi-critical and non-critical devices require varying levels of disinfection. SoClean’s versatile solutions cater to these diverse needs.
