New Jersey Patent of the Month – December 2023

Essenlix Corporation was founded to develop technologies that would replace the inconvenient and time-consuming traditional approach to in-person lab-testing. The company is set on advancing digital health with a personal mobile-device that allows an individual to run their own tests and evaluate diseases and health related biomarkers in their own body.

Their technology, marketed as iMOST, incorporates assays using sample thickness multiplexing to achieve health monitoring. This approach allows multiplexing on a single plate so that patients can get as much information as possible from a single sample.

Traditional clinical testing requires complex machines and professionals to operate said machines. To achieve the iMOST platform, Essenlix has abandoned standard “precision paradigms”, developing a wholly new paradigm – the “Intelligent Fault” paradigm. This new paradigm supports the delivery of clinical lab-quality test results using a simple device, even when a sample, device, process, and operation are imperfect.

The emphasis on portability implies a shift from traditional, stationary monitoring systems to on-the-go solutions. This could signify a leap towards continuous and real-time health tracking, providing users with immediate feedback and insights into their health status.

Essenlix’s innovation might tap into the expanding field of point-of-care diagnostics. If the device allows users to gather health data swiftly and accurately, it could prove instrumental in the early detection of health issues and prompt decision-making regarding medical interventions.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
