New Mexico Patent of the Month – October 2022

Trait Biosciences, Inc. is untapping the potential stored in every hemp plant. This mission is being supported by the company’s decades of R&D focused on the study of water-soluble cannabinoids and how they can be used in a range of applications and consumer products. This research has led to groundbreaking discoveries and the first truly water soluble cannabinoid extracts.

With their extraction methodologies, there is no need for nano-emulsification or encapsulation complications. These complications are the most commonly experienced limitations in cannabinoid production as they often degrade the strain’s integrity and may have inconsistent recovery rates. These difficulties are the result of the cannabinoids fat soluble nature, making them largely unstable in beverage form.

Trait’s patented high-level production process is achieved in a plant cell culture, achieving a successful in vivo production. This proprietary technology uses specialty fermenters to allow for industrial scale cell culture processes within a plant cell host. The water soluble process allows for more precise dosing, superior shelf stability, and a predictable consumer experience. With this system in place, the resultant compounds are uniform and remain in solution with ease.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
