New York Patent of the Month – June 2023

Detecting surface contamination is crucial in a multitude of industries – from food processing to pharmaceutical companies. Despite this need, there are limited existing solutions on the market capable of measuring this surface bacterial load. Vyv Inc has been working to develop an accurate and reliable contamination sensing device. This work has paid off, with the company recently being granted a patent for their technology.

Their innovative device offers real-time detection of surface contamination, providing industries with an effective tool for managing bacterial load.

Traditional methods of measuring bacterial load often lack real-time capabilities and require manual input. This can be time-consuming and may result in inadequate cleaning protocols. Vyv’s contamination sensing device addresses these limitations by providing an efficient and automated solution.

The device consists of a body with light emitters and sensors directed towards the surface. The light emitters emit an excitation wavelength of light onto the surface, while the sensors detect different emission wavelengths corresponding to the light emitted by contamination upon exposure to the excitation wavelength. This allows for the detection and measurement of bacterial load in real time.

One notable feature of the device is its ability to generate a contamination map based on captured images and sensor data. With the help of advanced processors, the contamination sensing device analyzes the images and sensor readings to create a visual representation of the contamination present on the surface. This contamination map provides valuable insights for cleaning and disinfection strategies, enabling targeted and effective interventions.

Moreover, the contamination sensing device offers flexibility in its configuration. It includes an array of light emitters with different excitation wavelengths, allowing for versatile detection of various types of contamination. The device also incorporates filters associated with each sensor to remove light outside the desired emission wavelength range, enhancing the accuracy of the measurements.

By enabling real-time detection of bacterial load, the contamination sensing device helps in mitigating hospital-acquired infections, maintaining stringent contamination regulations, and improving overall cleanliness and hygiene practices.

Vyv’s innovation in bacterial load sensing sets a new standard for contamination detection and management. With their advanced technology, industries can proactively monitor and address contamination risks, ensuring safer environments for patients, consumers, and employees.
