New York Patent of the Month – March 2022

The textile and fashion industry have seen a rise in the desire for personalization. Individuals are constantly finding new ways to achieve this through embroidery, printing, sewing and so on. If they can’t do it themselves, they find someone who can. However, personalization is a very labor-intensive process whether by hand or using automated machinery.

One personalization technique is Direct to Garment (DTG) printing. This usually requires multiple stages including pretreatment, printing, drying and more. CreateMe Technologies, LLC has designed a system to meet demand while still offering true personalization capabilities. This system provides the first end-to-end product creation platform built for unlimited creativity at speed and scale.

Their design includes a digital printing processing stage and an autonomous robot. The robots move the clothing between DTG processing stages (eg. pretreatment, printing etc.). At the same time, an actuator moves the stages closer together to further speed up the process. Rather than needing a large square footage to fit all stages, this set up is designed to be vertically integrated, meaning the stations are stacked over each other. You could then fit multiple equipment stages in a single room. In this way, the garments can be processed in parallel and with automated processes. CreateMe’s system intends to reinvent apparel manufacturing to meet both creative needs and production speed.
