Rhode Island Patent of the Month – May 2022

BedJet, LLC set out to develop the most comfortable bed possible since we spend 30% of our lives in bed. Through tedious engineering and prototyping, NASA engineer Mark Aramli began the design of a bed with cooling and climate comfort systems on par with NASA spacesuits. Their design intended to provide a customizable and personalized climate throughout the night, creating the optimal sleep temperature for anyone.

While developing this bed, the company designed their device with a cavity where the internal workings could be positioned without impeding comfortability. The device can sit below any mattress and is designed with a lip projecting out around the outer perimeter. This lip defines the recessed cavity, creating a defined gap where power cords and internal workings can pass through. The climate control device and power cords are positioned on the box spring with the mattress on top. The recessed cavity is sufficient enough to not cause any bumps or discomfort felt through the mattress.

BedJet canachieve different temperatures on either side of the mattress, so that sharing a bed won’t require compromise. This recessed power cord design is just one of 11 patents that go into the design of this climate control system.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
