South Dakota Patent of the Month – June 2022

Novum Nano, LLC, an advanced materials and process technology research start-up company, has recently developed a lubricant with nanoparticulate additive to better reduce wear, heat generation, and power consumption of nearly any engine or transmission.

Lubrication is crucial for most industrial processes, requiring an effective formulation to extend the life of the machine. By incorporating their nanotechnology, the lubricant can achieve improved insensitivity to temperature and greater performance in high-friction environments.

The formulation for this engine oil additive combines carbon nanotubes with boron nitride particulates. These components are then mixed into a hydrocarbon oil to complete the lubricating qualities. Through testing, Novum Nano has determined the formulation significantly reduces engine friction and provides a noticeable improvement in fuel efficiency and component longevity.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
