This expertise has resulted in the recently awarded patent for their design of a turbomachine with decoupled collectors. Their design incorporates a specialized compressor that has an impeller and collector. The collector suitably collects air discharged by the impeller. The design uses a radial outflow compressor coupled with a gas collector. While combined, each component is spaced apart to prevent excessive transfer of mechanical and thermal energy.
By having this separate collector design, the turbomachine sees numerous advantages. For instance, when the compressor has high exit velocities there can be excessive vibrations that impact the rest of the machine. The decoupled compressor prevents these velocities from transferring to other parts of the machine.
