Vermont Patent of the Month – September 2022
Concepts NREC, LLC have partnered with world leading OEMs for over 60 years. The company develops solutions to help these partners improve performance and manufacturability of turbomachines. In fact, they are the only company in the world whose in-house capabilities span the entire process – from conceptual design through manufacturing, testing, and installation. This expertise is the reason their solutions are as successful as they are.
This expertise has resulted in the recently awarded patent for their design of a turbomachine with decoupled collectors. Their design incorporates a specialized compressor that has an impeller and collector. The collector suitably collects air discharged by the impeller. The design uses a radial outflow compressor coupled with a gas collector. While combined, each component is spaced apart to prevent excessive transfer of mechanical and thermal energy.
By having this separate collector design, the turbomachine sees numerous advantages. For instance, when the compressor has high exit velocities there can be excessive vibrations that impact the rest of the machine. The decoupled compressor prevents these velocities from transferring to other parts of the machine.
Concepts NREC has entire departments dedicated to this type of R&D. From design and development to laboratory testing, the company is truly a one-stop-shop for engineering needs. As a result, their R&D department has led to over 70 patents worldwide, with numerous patents pending.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
