Missouri Patent of the Month – July 2021

Production and manufacturing processes often require very very precise measurements and cuts. Errors on the order of even one thousandth of an inch can cause critical issues, so measurement devices must be very stable and precise. To aid in this, Brunson Instrument Company developed a tripod capable of providing this much needed stability.

Their metrology grade light weight tripod is designed to be collapsible without compromising stability and precision. The base supports three legs which can easily swing open to a preset angle against a positive stop. They are then locked into place with leg spreaders that provide a pre-load to hold them in place against the stops. The leg spreader is tightened into place and increases stability. They also include a leg-to-leg cross bracing which cooperates with the spreader member and adds better rigidity. This tripod can then reliably support measuring equipment while ensuring the any error is not a result of shaking or movement.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
