With a growing population and limited resources, hospitals and healthcare personnel are often faced with tough decisions. In fact, it often comes down to an all or nothing approach – the patient is admitted or discharged. Doctors are forced to choose to give “all” because the only alternative is to give “nothing”. Recently, the company has patented their patient emergency response system. This system allows patients to be monitored remotely, wirelessly transmitting physiologic data to a remote server. This data is then analyzed to determine if a medical event is occurring, and if so, where the patient is located and which treatment facility is best suited to handle the patient’s specific needs.
One key aspect of Ross Medical’s system is the use of a phone located remotely from the patient, which is programmed to generate an updated automatic location identification database record for the phone based on the patient’s location. This means that if the patient is unconscious or unable to communicate, the system can still accurately determine their location and dispatch emergency personnel to that location.
The emergency services server is programmed to determine a patient location based on preliminary patient location information and any historical database patient identity information. This information is then compared against facility data (e.g. location, what services are offered etc.). This allows the system to quickly determine the patient’s location and which treatment facility is best suited to handle the patient’s specific needs.
