Idaho Patent of the Month – August 2025
An inventive system for product recovery has received a U.S. patent. The invention, titled “Food grade product recovery system,” aims to reduce waste in food and beverage production. This automated system is designed to hygienically recover leftover product from packaging. It ensures no product is wasted, a major win for both efficiency and sustainability. The system is the work of EvacuPak Inc.
Smart Recovery Technology
The system uses one or more hygienic lances. These lances pierce the product packaging. They then pull the remaining food-grade product into an evacuation chamber. This process happens without the product touching the outside environment. A distending compression plate may also force product out of the packaging. This design is highly efficient. It ensures a high rate of recovery.
Meeting Industry Standards
This new system is fully compliant with strict hygienic and sanitary standards. These standards are set by 3-A Sanitary Standards Inc. and are adopted by regulatory bodies like the USDA and FDA. This compliance is critical. It guarantees that the recovered product remains safe and uncontaminated. The system also includes a Clean-in-Place (CIP) system for easy sanitation after use. This keeps the machinery clean and safe for future use.
Real-World Impact
The invention, U.S. Patent No. 12382969, has a clear real-world impact. It helps manufacturers recover valuable product that would otherwise be discarded. This can reduce waste and improve profitability for businesses. The system’s automated nature also streamlines operations. This helps companies save time and labor. It is a significant step forward for the food processing industry. It blends advanced technology with practical, sustainable solutions.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
