Nebraska and the R&D Tax Credit
The Nebraska Research Tax Credit indefinitely rewards corporations and flow-through entities for performing qualified research activities within the state. The standard credit equals 15% of the taxpayer’s allowed federal credit and can be claimed as a refundable income tax credit or a refund on paid sales and use taxes. If the federal credit continues to be actively earned, this state credit carries forward for 20 years. Taxpayers conducting research through a Nebraska university receive an elevated credit of 35% of the federal amount. This university-based incentive carries forward for four years, provided both the federal credit and university collaboration continue.
