A new laser-based system for gas detection promises to revolutionize environmental and industrial monitoring. Developed by Bridger Photonics Inc. , the technology creates high-precision, 3D maps of gas concentrations. This innovation is ideal for identifying and pinpointing gas leaks over large areas. The system combines range-finding and gas-sensing capabilities to deliver a clear, actionable image. It represents a significant advancement in leak detection for the oil and gas industry and chemical processing facilities.
Mapping Gas Leaks in 3D
The core of the invention is a sensor that uses a modulated laser beam. The beam rapidly scans a scene, measuring both distance and gas concentration at each point. A processor then combines this data. It generates a 3D topographic image of the area. The processor also creates a gas concentration image. These two datasets are then registered together. This process yields a detailed, spatially-registered map of gas leaks. The invention is outlined in U.S. Patent No. 12379210, titled ‘High-sensitivity gas-mapping 3D imager and method of operation’. The system can be mounted on a stationary platform or mast. This makes it particularly useful for large-scale monitoring applications.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
