Texas Patent of the Month – August 2025
A new patent awarded to Vactronix Scientific LLC could transform the medical device industry. U.S. Patent No. 12376797, titled ‘Method of making integrated circuit medical devices,’ describes a novel process. It creates a flexible, universal platform for tiny implantable sensors. The technology promises better diagnosis and treatment for many conditions, from neurological disorders to heart rhythm issues.
Fabricating Smart Implants
The patent outlines a precise fabrication method. It starts by depositing a conductive material onto a substrate. Next, a laser cuts tiny slots into the material. This process defines an intricate network of circuit traces. A dielectric layer then coats the framework. This layer insulates the circuits. The final device is a flexible platform. It has integrated circuitry. This platform can be a tubular stent or a flat structure. Its design allows it to conform to a body’s anatomy.
Impact on Medical Care
This invention creates a versatile new tool. The smart implants can sense and stimulate physiological conditions. They can monitor blood pressure or nerve activity. This technology may offer new ways to diagnose diseases. It could also provide therapeutic solutions. The patent claims the device can treat conditions like epilepsy. It could restore mobility after spinal cord injuries. The invention’s monolithic design could lead to more durable implants. This could reduce the risks of traditional brain surgery.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
