Maine Patent of the Month – March 2024

National Attachments Incorporated has provided high quality attachments for manufacturing companies worldwide for 35 years. With this extensive history, the company has made a name for themselves as a leader in the industry. The company has recently been granted a patent for their stump harvester designed to attach to excavators.

A stump harvester is a tool that typically performs tasks such as excavating, ripping, and prying stumps from the ground as well as shearing and splitting the stump into pieces. Most existing stump harvesters are known to be limited in efficiency and longevity. National Attachments has designed an attachment with greater efficiency and capability.

At the heart of this invention lies a meticulously designed front jaw assembly pivotally coupled with a back jaw assembly. The front jaw assembly features a robust grubbing arm, boasting a front plate flanked by left and right side plates, each meticulously crafted for optimal performance. Meanwhile, the back jaw assembly houses a formidable knife arm, equipped with a jointed cutting blade sporting a dual-bevel cross-sectional geometry, ensuring precision and effectiveness in cutting operations.

What sets this multi-purpose tool apart is its adaptability and efficiency. With a front positive stop and a back positive stop strategically placed, this tool ensures precise alignment and secure closure, minimizing errors and maximizing productivity. The dual anvil, with its anvil channel perfectly aligned with the cutting edge, provides a stable platform for cutting operations, enhancing safety and accuracy.

The inclusion of a splitter fang and prying tines further expands the tool’s capabilities, allowing for a wider range of applications, from excavating tree stumps to manipulating various materials with ease. Whether it’s excavating, ripping, prying, or cutting, this tool excels in every aspect, making it an indispensable asset for any excavation project.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?

The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
