Wyoming Patent of the Month – April 2024
Moser Energy Systems, a pioneer in energy innovation, has been granted a patent for their new approach to the determination and utilization of energy sources. Their latest invention, a stand-alone energy storage module (ESM) coupled with an ESM controller, promises to redefine how we harness and manage power from various sources.
At the heart of this innovation lies a movable structure housing batteries capable of receiving, storing, and distributing electrical power. Complemented by a bi-directional inverter, this system seamlessly converts between direct and alternating current, ensuring optimal utilization of available energy. What sets Moser Energy Systems apart is their ESM controller’s ability to communicate with controllers associated with different energy sources, such as engine-driven generators, renewable energy sources, or utility grids.
The method is elegant in its simplicity yet powerful in its implications. By signaling a demand for increased power, the ESM controller monitors responses from connected energy sources, analyzing key parameters like voltage, current, and frequency. Through this process, it discerns which energy source is connected and how it responds to demand fluctuations.
The versatility of Moser Energy Systems’ invention is truly remarkable. With configurations ranging from connecting to engine-driven generators and renewable energy sources to integrating with utility grids, the ESM forms a deployable self-forming microgrid adaptable to various scenarios.
The system’s proactive approach to anticipating and preemptively responding to power loading and unloading events ensures uninterrupted power supply. By leveraging stored energy and adjusting tuning parameters in real-time, Moser’s invention optimizes energy delivery while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The implications of Moser Energy Systems’ invention extend far beyond conventional power generation. Whether supporting downhole pumps in oil and gas operations or providing grid support with renewable energy integration, their ESMs offer a versatile solution to diverse energy challenges.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
