North Dakota Patent of the Month – July 2024
Bushel, Inc.‘s latest innovation is a component-adjusting tool designed to revolutionize how farmers manage grain proportions. This method offers an intuitive user interface, allowing users to select from a variety of grain components and adjust their proportions dynamically. The system presents these components in a linear arrangement, with adjustable boundaries that enable precise control over the relative proportions. As adjustments are made, the system autonomously generates a physical mixture, updating the ratio in real-time.
This technology simplifies the blending process, ensuring that the exact desired mixture is achieved without manual calculation or error. The user interface can display the percentage values of each component, making it easy to track and verify the proportions. Whether presented vertically or on a mobile device, the system adapts to the user’s needs, enhancing accessibility and convenience.
In addition to its primary function, this system addresses key challenges in grain management, such as traceability and efficiency. By keeping detailed records of each grain’s origin and mixture ratios, farmers can better track field-level performance and profitability. This is particularly beneficial during harvest when quick turnaround times are crucial, and storage bins often mix grains from different fields.
Bushel’s innovative approach not only improves operational efficiency but also supports sustainability and quality control. As markets evolve and the need for traceability grows, this system provides farmers with a robust tool to meet these demands, ensuring they can maximize their resources and profitability. By integrating advanced computing with practical agricultural needs, Bushel’s invention marks a significant step forward in modern farming practices.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
