Delaware Patent of the Month – August 2024

Idoru, Inc. is building a new type of digital world which focuses on self-expression and creativity. They are starting off with avatars and virtual fashion using virtual and extended reality (XR). Recently, the company secured a patent for their XR avatar technology.

This innovation transforms how we interact with and create digital personas in XR, virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR) environments. With this system, users can project themselves into the digital world in ways previously unimaginable.

The core of the invention is an avatar mesh that mirrors a user’s real-world movements and expressions using a mobile device’s forward-facing camera. This system allows users to customize their avatars extensively, from altering appearances and styles to modifying behaviors. By capturing visual, audio, and time-based data through external sensors, the avatar becomes a dynamic reflection of the user, adapting and learning from both physical and virtual environments.

One of the standout features of this invention is its ability to integrate external and third-party data to enhance avatar realism and functionality. Users can automate their avatars to operate autonomously, representing their behaviors with high precision. This level of sophistication opens doors for avatars to become more than just digital representations; they can become proactive agents capable of predicting user behavior and making informed decisions.

Idoru’s invention addresses critical security concerns by employing a unique identification string that ensures the authenticity and integrity of each avatar. This security measure not only protects user identity but also enables the creation of an avatar-driven economy where avatars and their assets can be sold, licensed, and exchanged.

By bridging the gap between physical and digital realities, Idoru’s avatar system sets a new standard for personal expressiveness and identity in digital spaces. It empowers individuals to express their creativity while ensuring their digital identities remain secure and authentic. This invention is not just about creating avatars; it’s about revolutionizing how we experience and interact with the digital world.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?

The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
