Indiana Patent of the Month – August 2024
3DT Holdings, LLC, innovators in Drugs, Devices, and Diagnostics, has patented a new approach to mapping organ profiles.
Their approach generates highly accurate lumen profiles, which are essential for advanced cardiovascular treatments. This innovative approach uses a catheter equipped with electrodes that collect conductance data at multiple points along a body lumen, such as an artery or vein. The collected data is then processed using sophisticated algorithms that eliminate anomalies and smooth out irregularities, providing a precise and detailed profile of the lumen.
This method is particularly valuable in procedures like endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), where accurate placement of medical devices is crucial. Traditional imaging techniques, such as MRI or angiography, often fall short in providing the spatial resolution needed for these complex procedures. 3DT Holdings’ technology addresses this gap by offering a real-time, high-resolution mapping of the lumen, enabling clinicians to navigate and position stents or leads with greater confidence and precision.
The use of conductance data to map the lumen’s cross-sectional areas also allows for the identification of anatomical structures, such as bifurcations, that could complicate device placement. By integrating this technology into catheter-based procedures, 3DT Holdings not only improves the accuracy of these interventions but also reduces the risks associated with misplacement, such as device migration or failure.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
