Kentucky Patent of the Month – September 2024

Stinger Equipment Inc. has redefined turf aeration with their innovative hydraulic-powered aerator, designed to deliver superior performance while minimizing the high maintenance costs associated with traditional models. This cutting-edge machine features a powerful engine that drives both the tines and the wheels through hydraulic pumps, eliminating the need for the complex chains and sprockets found in older aerators. By utilizing hydraulic motors to power the tines, Stinger’s aerator ensures consistent performance and reliability across various soil conditions.

One of the standout features of this invention is its ability to effortlessly switch between aerating and transport modes. Operators can raise and lower the tine assemblies at will, allowing for more control and precision when working across different sections of a lawn. The hydraulic system also optimizes power distribution, so the drive wheels and tines rotate at similar speeds, enabling the machine to propel itself effectively while aerating.

The tines, housed in debris-protected drums, can penetrate hard, compacted soils deeply, utilizing the full weight of the machine and the operator for enhanced traction and aeration depth. This reduces the need for excessive fertilization and irrigation, promoting healthier, more resilient turf.

Beyond performance, Stinger’s hydraulic aerator significantly cuts down on maintenance time and costs. By replacing chains and sprockets with a hydraulic system, contractors no longer have to deal with frequent repairs, chain rust, or costly replacements. This innovation offers an efficient, low-maintenance solution for professional landscapers, making it an invaluable tool for boosting productivity while lowering operational expenses.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?

The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
