Washington Patent of the Month – September 2024

AI THINKTANK has developed a groundbreaking system that applies biomechanical analysis to a user’s body movements during various activities. By utilizing a single viewpoint image capture device, this system quantifies movement in three-dimensional space and generates an accurate 3D avatar of the user performing the action. This innovative technology allows for real-time analysis of kinematic parameters—such as position, velocity, and acceleration—by breaking down body movements into measurable components.

The system works by receiving the selection of a domain, such as sports performance or physical therapy, from an administrative user. From there, it creates a personalized watch list, highlighting key attributes and movement parameters specific to the activity. This process enables precise tracking of body movements, offering a detailed understanding of how each segment of the body moves. By comparing the user’s performance to reference data or pre-recorded actions, the system identifies differences, providing valuable feedback for improvement.

A key feature of the system is its ability to generate a 3D avatar that mirrors the user’s movements, creating an immersive way to visualize and compare performances. The system even goes further, allowing for the creation of domain-specific motion trackers and detailed biomechanical analyses, including higher-order derivatives of motion, like jerk or snap. This data can be used in various fields, from optimizing athletic performance to aiding in rehabilitation and assessing the effectiveness of treatments.

AI THINKTANK’s system represents a leap forward in biomechanical analysis, offering a comprehensive, real-time solution for monitoring and improving human movement. Whether for training, recovery, or performance optimization, this technology provides invaluable insights into the intricacies of body mechanics.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?

The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
