Nevada Patent of the Month – October 2024
Imagia has revolutionized imaging technology with the introduction of its groundbreaking metalens-based imaging system. By harnessing the power of subwavelength deflector elements, these metalenses achieve unparalleled control over light manipulation, offering a compact and efficient alternative to traditional optical systems. Unlike conventional lenses, which rely on curved surfaces and bulky assemblies, Imagia’s metalenses utilize a planar array of nanoscale deflectors to precisely guide light across multiple wavelengths.
This innovation introduces a transformative approach to color imaging. The system’s multipixel digital sensor employs subpixels tuned to detect distinct bands of light—red, green, and blue—filtered and directed by a meticulously designed metalens layer. This architecture ensures not only vivid color capture but also exceptional resolution, free from common optical distortions like chromatic aberration. The metalens elements, smaller than the wavelengths of light they manipulate, achieve this with remarkable precision.
Imagia’s invention isn’t just about imaging; it’s about miniaturization and performance optimization. The compact design of the metalens system makes it an ideal candidate for applications ranging from satellite imaging to portable devices. Traditional optical assemblies are often heavy and cumbersome, especially for space-bound or high-performance equipment. Imagia’s solution provides a lighter, more cost-effective alternative without compromising on optical quality.
The versatility of the metalens extends to its ability to manage a broad spectral bandwidth while maintaining angular fidelity. This dual functionality enables systems to adapt seamlessly across diverse environments and use cases. Whether it’s enhancing the capabilities of CubeSats or refining terrestrial imaging technologies, Imagia’s invention is poised to set new standards in optics. With this development, the future of imaging is sharper, lighter, and more accessible than ever before.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
