Wisconsin Patent of the Month – October 2024
Innocorp, Ltd. has redefined the boundaries of safety education with its groundbreaking cognitive impairment simulation system. At its core lies a pair of ingeniously engineered goggles designed to emulate the disorienting effects of cognitive impairment. Utilizing advanced optical filter elements, the goggles manipulate light through precise spectral pass-band filtering and spatial phase delay patterns, creating a realistic and controlled distortion of visual perception.
This innovation is more than a visual aid—it’s an immersive experience. The system integrates radiant objects reflecting specific wavelengths and a uniquely designed substrate featuring intersecting roads in complex, color-coded patterns. These elements work in harmony to disorient the wearer’s cognitive processing, mimicking the challenges of navigating impaired conditions.
A key feature of the system is its dynamic interaction with light. The optical filter elements block or alter wavelengths to disrupt color recognition, while embedded patterns induce phase shifts in light beams. This creates a heightened sense of confusion, simulating real-world cognitive deficits with remarkable accuracy. To enhance the effect, blinking light sources introduce temporal uncertainty, challenging the user’s memory and decision-making abilities.
The potential applications are transformative. From driver education programs to workplace safety training, this system empowers users to experience the critical dangers of impaired cognition in a safe environment. By engaging both visual and cognitive faculties, Innocorp’s invention fosters profound awareness and behavioral change.
This cutting-edge tool exemplifies Innocorp’s commitment to innovation and social responsibility, setting a new standard in experiential learning. The goggles aren’t just an invention; they are a pivotal step forward in fostering safer communities through impactful education.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
