Wyoming Patent of the Month – October 2024

Raven SR has unveiled a revolutionary method for converting waste into clean, renewable energy sources, addressing two global challenges—waste management and sustainable fuel production. Their patented process combines steam and carbon dioxide reforming to transform diverse feedstocks, including municipal solid waste, medical waste, and natural gas, into hydrogen and Fischer-Tropsch (FT) liquids.

Unlike conventional gasification, which relies on combustion and air addition, Raven SR’s process eliminates combustion entirely. This approach maximizes efficiency by avoiding nitrogen dilution and reducing CO₂ emissions, while enhancing hydrogen output. The key lies in their dual-reformer system. The initial reformer extracts sulfur and prepares feedstock, while the main reformer processes it further, creating syngas—a hydrogen-rich gas ideal for producing clean energy.

Raven SR’s innovation doesn’t stop at hydrogen production. Their Fischer-Tropsch module transforms syngas into high-value hydrocarbon liquids, paving the way for renewable fuels. The process is meticulously optimized, balancing temperature, steam, and CO₂ levels to achieve an ideal H₂/CO ratio, critical for Fischer-Tropsch reactions. Remarkably, the system also recycles byproducts back into the reformers, enhancing efficiency and minimizing waste.

This technology represents a paradigm shift in sustainable energy. By turning waste into valuable resources without combustion, Raven SR offers a cleaner, scalable alternative for hydrogen and renewable fuel production. Their system not only reduces landfill reliance but also provides a viable pathway to decarbonize energy-intensive industries.

Raven SR’s commitment to innovation is evident in every detail of this process. From advanced sulfur removal to the precise control of reaction parameters, their technology is a beacon of hope for a cleaner, greener future.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?

The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
