California Patent of the Month – November 2024
In the quest to address the critical challenges of global food security and sustainable agriculture, BioConsortia, Inc. has introduced an innovative microbial solution that could redefine crop productivity. This breakthrough utilizes *Paenibacillus polymyxa* Strain 66545, a bacterial species with remarkable capabilities to enhance plant growth, yield, and nitrogen utilization efficiency. The strain is part of an agriculturally acceptable composition that integrates stabilizers, preservatives, and other functional additives, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional high-input farming.
What sets this invention apart is its capacity to reduce reliance on synthetic fertilizers while boosting crop performance. By exogenously applying this bacterial strain to seeds, plant parts, or growth mediums, farmers can achieve elevated biomass and yield compared to untreated crops. The formulation can also be paired with other microbial strains, pesticides, or biostimulants, creating a versatile platform adaptable to various agricultural contexts.
This innovation is not just a step forward in crop science—it’s a leap toward environmental sustainability. Unlike conventional methods that often strain natural resources, BioConsortia’s solution capitalizes on nature’s own microbial machinery. By closing the global agricultural yield gap, it addresses the pressing need to feed a rapidly growing population without compromising the planet’s health.
The potential applications extend to cereal crops and beyond, utilizing flexible methods such as seed coatings, sprays, or soil treatments. This comprehensive approach ensures that the benefits are accessible across diverse farming practices, enabling broader adoption. With this pioneering microbial technology, BioConsortia paves the way for a greener, more productive future in agriculture, offering hope for both farmers and the planet.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
