Nevada Patent of the Month – February 2025

LedgerDomain has pioneered a breakthrough in securing clinical trial data using blockchain technology. This innovation eliminates inefficiencies in compliance and record-keeping while fortifying data integrity. Traditional methods rely on fragmented databases prone to human error and cyber vulnerabilities. By contrast, LedgerDomain’s system creates a tamper-proof, decentralized ledger that ensures trust and transparency without compromising security.

At the heart of this technology is an on-chain record origin—an encrypted version of the original clinical trial data, signed by its custodian. Any user seeking to verify an off-chain copy of this data can compare it to the immutable blockchain record. The system supports multiple levels of validation, allowing different stakeholders—regulators, researchers, and even study participants—to securely access the information they are authorized to see.

Beyond validation, this invention enhances accountability through a detailed chain of custody. Every time clinical data is accessed, validated, or updated, the blockchain records the action, creating a comprehensive provenance trail. Smart contracts enforce these processes, granting access only to those with proper permissions.

LedgerDomain’s blockchain-based approach does more than secure data—it redefines how clinical trials operate. Researchers can track patient outcomes over time, regulators can instantly audit data, and pharmaceutical companies can confidently analyze results without fear of manipulation. This system even supports advanced capabilities like anonymizing patient data and mixing information across studies for meta-analysis.

By replacing outdated, error-prone record-keeping with blockchain’s inherent security and efficiency, LedgerDomain is addressing one of the biggest bottlenecks in medical research. This invention not only streamlines compliance but also fosters collaboration and trust in an industry where data integrity is paramount.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?

The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
