Louisiana Patent of the Month – October 2025
Precision measurement technology just received a major upgrade for use in the world’s harshest industrial environments. U.S. Patent No. 12449286, titled ‘High pressure magmeter and method of assembly,’ introduces a robust solution designed to survive severe pressures. This innovation drastically improves the reliability of electromagnetic flowmeters in critical applications. The patent aims to provide a reliable method for manufacturing magnetic flowmeters capable of operating at extreme internal pressures without compromising measurement accuracy.
Enhancing Industrial Flow Measurement
Magnetic flowmeters, or magmeters, are essential tools across numerous industries. They accurately measure the flow rate of conductive liquids using an electromagnetic field. Applications include water treatment, chemical manufacturing, and oil and gas operations. Historically, building these devices to withstand high pressure without component failure has been a major engineering challenge. This new assembly method overcomes those limitations.
A New Standard for Durability
The patented method outlines a novel design where the meter’s components are engineered for superior structural integrity. This allows Thompson Equipment Company Inc. to deliver a measurement instrument that performs reliably in the most demanding conditions. The meter’s enhanced durability ensures continuous operation. It promises reduced maintenance costs and fewer field failures for customers in heavy R&D sectors. This technological leap sets a new standard for high-pressure industrial instrumentation worldwide.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
