Pennsylvania Patent of the Month – November 2025
The future of medicine just accelerated. Peptilogics Inc. has secured U.S. Patent No. 12462902, titled ‘Artificial intelligence engine architecture for generating candidate drugs’. This patent marks a major step toward transforming pharmaceutical research and development. The core technology involves a sophisticated AI engine architecture designed to discover and engineer novel peptide therapeutics. This machine learning approach seeks to overcome the high cost and failure rate inherent in traditional drug discovery.
Innovation in Drug Discovery
The new architecture moves beyond conventional screening methods. It uses a creator module combined with a knowledge graph to perform de novo design. This means the AI engine generates optimized drug candidates from scratch, rather than testing existing molecules. The system operates in silico, exploring vast chemical space with speed and precision. It simultaneously optimizes key properties like binding affinity and safety profile. This integration drastically reduces the time and resources required to identify viable therapeutic agents.
Accelerating Therapeutic Development
This patented methodology holds significant promise for serious health challenges. Peptilogics is currently using the platform to develop engineered peptide antibiotics. These drugs are aimed at life-threatening issues, including treating multi-drug resistant (MDR) bacteria and medical device infections. By moving predictive peptide design into a high-scale computational environment, the company is accelerating the path to new medicines where needs are currently unmet.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
