Louisiana Patent of the Month – December 2025

A breakthrough in low-profile tactical equipment is redefining how operators manage mission-essential gear. UNITY Tactical LLC has secured a new patent for a specialized carry system designed for maximum discretion and rapid deployment. U.S. Patent No. 12,498,197, titled ‘Sling system used to carry and conceal a firearm’, offers a sophisticated solution for carrying equipment under everyday clothing.

Innovative Design for Modern Utility

The invention introduces a unique sling architecture that prioritizes both concealment and comfort. Traditional slings often create noticeable bulges or restrict movement when worn under a jacket or shirt. This system uses a streamlined configuration to keep the equipment close to the body. It allows for a natural range of motion while maintaining a completely hidden profile. The design ensures that gear remains secure during physical activity, preventing shifting or printing through fabric.

Enhanced Accessibility and Rapid Deployment

Speed is critical in tactical scenarios, and this system focuses on reducing draw time. The patent describes a specialized attachment mechanism that facilitates a smooth transition from concealed carry to active use. By optimizing the geometry of the sling, the inventors have minimized the risk of snags on clothing. This innovation provides a significant advantage for law enforcement and security professionals who operate in plainclothes environments. The system balances the need for total concealment with the necessity of immediate access.

Real-World Impact and Versatility

This patent represents a major step forward in modular R&D for the defense industry. Beyond tactical use, the technology could influence the design of high-end outdoor and travel gear. It demonstrates a clear commitment to solving the ergonomic challenges of modern carry systems. The result is a more efficient, reliable, and comfortable tool for professional end-users.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?

The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
