The modern warehouse is undergoing a radical transformation as manual labor and high-tech automation merge into a single, fluid operation. Onward Robotics (formerly known as IAM Robotics LLC) is leading this charge with a newly patented approach to logistics. U.S. Patent No. 12560931, titled ‘Collaborative order fulfillment systems and methods’, introduces a smarter way for humans and robots to work side-by-side. This innovation promises to eliminate the bottlenecks that typically slow down e-commerce shipments.
Synchronized Warehouse Intelligence
The heart of this patent lies in its ability to coordinate independent robotic units with human pickers in real-time. Instead of robots replacing people, the system treats them as a unified team. Software actively manages the movements of autonomous mobile robots to meet workers at precise locations. This “meet me” strategy ensures that human experts spend less time walking and more time fulfilling orders.
Optimizing the Logistics Chain
Efficiency in the supply chain often breaks down during the “last touch” of an item. This patented system solves that problem by using dynamic task assignment. The robots navigate complex warehouse layouts to transport heavy loads, while humans handle the delicate task of selecting items. This collaboration maximizes the strengths of both parties. It reduces physical strain on employees while significantly boosting the total number of orders processed per hour.
Scalable Impact for E-commerce
This technology arrives at a critical moment for global retail. As consumer demand for rapid delivery grows, warehouses must adapt without completely rebuilding their infrastructure. The flexible nature of this collaborative system allows businesses to scale their operations quickly. By integrating these smart methods, companies can maintain high accuracy and speed. This ensures that the products you order arrive at your door faster than ever before.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
