Alabama Patent of the Month – July 2024

TriDelta Systems, LLC has revolutionized the handling of fragile items with their innovative vertical transfer apparatus for whole nuts. This invention addresses the critical need for maintaining the integrity of nuts, such as whole peanuts, during transport from one elevation to another. Traditional methods, including spiral ramps and conventional alternating panel devices, often result in blockages or damage to the nuts, reducing their value and usability, especially in applications requiring intact products, like candy-making.

The apparatus features a run with a series of conveying panels inclined at about 30 degrees, designed to transport nuts in a continuous stream without tumbling. This ensures that each nut remains in contact with adjacent nuts, minimizing the risk of damage. The variable effective conveying width, adjustable through sidewalls and intermediate walls, accommodates different mass flow rates, allowing for flexible and efficient handling of nuts based on specific requirements.

Moreover, TriDelta’s design includes arcuate turn-arounds between the panels, facilitating smooth transitions and further protecting the nuts from impact damage. An optional sensor detects the force exerted by the nuts, enabling precise control over the mass flow rate and enhancing the system’s efficiency.

This apparatus represents a significant advancement in the agricultural and food processing industries, providing a solution that combines speed, efficiency, and the gentle handling necessary for fragile items. With TriDelta Systems’ innovative approach, the delicate balance between maintaining product integrity and optimizing transport efficiency is effectively achieved, paving the way for improved processing techniques and higher-quality end products.
