Arkansas Patent of the Month – January 2025
BioVentures, LLC is revolutionizing coronary intervention with a groundbreaking method for creating patient-specific medical balloons. Traditional stenting techniques for bifurcation lesions—complex areas where arteries split—often lead to complications such as restenosis or thrombosis. The challenge lies in the unique anatomy of each patient, making the one-size-fits-all approach of conventional balloon molding ineffective.
Our innovation introduces a precision-driven assembly that forms custom balloons tailored to individual vascular structures. By leveraging biometric data, our system designs a form that matches the exact geometry of a patient’s blood vessel or lesion. This eliminates the inefficiencies of traditional glass or metal molds and ensures a perfect anatomical fit.
At the core of our technology is a heated jaw mechanism that, combined with a tensioning device, sculpts a tapered parison into the desired balloon shape. The process involves controlled heating, tensioning, and cooling in a stepwise manner, producing a balloon with precise dimensions. Additionally, proximal and distal stoppers allow for controlled cone geometry, further refining the balloon’s final structure.
By optimizing balloon formation, our method minimizes stent overlap and reduces the risk of complications, providing cardiologists with a superior tool for treating complex lesions. This patient-specific approach enhances procedural success, improves long-term outcomes, and paves the way for personalized cardiovascular care. BioVentures, LLC is committed to advancing medical technology, ensuring that every patient receives a tailored solution for their unique vascular challenges.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
