Arkansas Patent of the Month – November 2024
Earth Science Laboratories, Inc. has developed a revolutionary water treatment solution that combines safety, efficiency, and versatility to address modern water quality challenges. This novel solution, based on cluster compounds of substituted amine sulfates and bisulfates, offers an advanced approach to removing contaminants and ensuring water is safe for a variety of uses.
The solution’s unique chemistry lies in its molecular clusters, which include substituted amines paired with sulfuric acid. These clusters operate effectively at concentrations ranging from 10% to 50% by weight, with a pH below 2, enabling robust performance against microbial pathogens and chemical contaminants. By harnessing alkyl and aryl substituents, the compounds are adaptable for diverse water treatment applications, from drinking water purification to industrial wastewater management.
What sets this invention apart is its production method, which prioritizes safety and simplicity. Unlike traditional methods involving hazardous, exothermic reactions, this approach utilizes a controlled cooling process, eliminating the need for high-pressure systems or open vats. This not only reduces risks but also ensures consistency and scalability for widespread implementation.
The solution is particularly effective in applications requiring copper-based treatments, such as combating invasive species like dreissenid mussels. By blending the cluster compounds with copper, the formulation enhances bioavailability while minimizing environmental impact. Additionally, its compatibility with existing water treatment infrastructure ensures seamless integration without extensive modifications.
Earth Science Laboratories’ breakthrough addresses longstanding challenges in water treatment by offering a safer, more efficient alternative to traditional methods. This innovation not only enhances water quality but also aligns with sustainable practices, paving the way for cleaner, safer water worldwide.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
