Colorado Patent of the Month – April 2025
AQRONOS, INC. has introduced a powerful upgrade to LiDAR technology. U.S. Patent No. 12,287,430, titled “Frequency information rapid extraction for ranging applications,” details a system that improves how quickly and accurately objects are detected using laser signals.
Faster Sensing Through Smarter Design
The invention uses a frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) laser system combined with a unique optical setup. It includes an electro-optic modulator and a balanced photodetector. Together, these elements help isolate and analyze reflected signals with greater precision.
Unlike older systems, this one can also measure the speed of moving objects. That’s thanks to a built-in in-phase quadrature (IQ) demodulation unit, which reads subtle shifts in signal patterns. As a result, the system can extract both distance and velocity in real time.
Big Potential Across Industries
This smarter LiDAR technology offers wide-ranging benefits. For example, self-driving cars could use it to detect and respond to obstacles more safely. In factories, the system may help monitor machinery or moving parts with greater detail. Even mobile devices could adopt the compact design for indoor navigation.
With this patent, AQRONOS, INC. pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in laser-based sensing. The result is faster, clearer, and more useful data across many industries.
