U.S. Patent No. 12300118, titled ‘Wearable wound treatment simulation devices’, introduces a high-fidelity simulator that mimics real wounds on live actors. This innovation aims to enhance clinical education and reduce hospital-acquired complications.
Realistic Wound Care Training
The patented device, known as Avwound, allows students to practice wound care on simulated patients. It features skin that blanches under pressure, mimicking real tissue response. An advanced fluid system releases various types of simulated exudate, such as blood and pus, enhancing the realism of the training.
Interactive Learning Experience
Avwound includes sensors and haptic feedback, enabling the simulated patient to react to the learner’s touch. This interactivity helps students develop both technical skills and empathy. The device can be positioned on different body parts, including the sacrum, thigh, and shoulder, to simulate various wound locations.
Addressing a Critical Need
Pressure ulcers and open wounds are significant concerns in healthcare, costing the U.S. up to $11.6 billion annually. By providing realistic training, Avwound aims to improve patient outcomes and reduce these costs.
