Georgia Patent of the Month – May 2025

A newly granted U.S. patent could reshape how clinicians monitor and stimulate nerves. U.S. Patent No. 12295733, titled ‘Electrode-based systems and devices for interfacing with biological tissue and related methods’, was issued on May 13, 2025, to BioCircuit Technologies Inc.. The invention introduces a flexible, skin-friendly electrode patch designed for precise nerve diagnostics and therapy.

Flexible Design for Better Nerve Access

The core of the system is a hydrogel-based electrode array embedded in a soft, flexible patch. Each electrode features a raised geometry to improve contact with the skin. A built-in compression pad applies focused pressure, enhancing signal quality without causing discomfort.

Smart Electronics for Real-Time Feedback

An integrated electronics module connects to the electrode array, enabling both stimulation and recording of nerve activity. The system can deliver timed electrical pulses and adjust them based on real-time feedback. It also uses advanced circuitry to reduce noise, ensuring cleaner data for diagnostics.

Applications in Neurology and Rehabilitation

This technology could benefit various medical fields. It offers a non-invasive way to conduct nerve conduction studies and functional nerve imaging. Clinicians may use it for diagnosing nerve disorders or aiding in physical rehabilitation.

Advancing Bioelectronic Medicine

With this patent, BioCircuit Technologies Inc. continues to lead in developing tools that bridge the gap between electronics and biological systems. Their innovations aim to provide clinicians with practical solutions for complex medical challenges
