Georgia Patent of the Month – October 2024

Alchatek has unveiled a groundbreaking method to stabilize new seawalls and combat soil erosion—a persistent challenge for coastal infrastructure. Their innovative approach employs precision injection of advanced sealing materials, including polymeric compounds like single-component closed-cell polyurethane, to form a robust chemical barrier along the landward side of the seawall. This barrier not only mitigates erosion but also ensures the long-term durability of the structure.

Unlike traditional methods that rely on filter fabrics or early interventions prone to inefficiencies, Alchatek’s solution creates a continuous, undulating layer of protection beneath the seawall, preventing soil degradation before it escalates into costly repairs. The method integrates the strategic placement of dewatering channels, allowing water to flow harmlessly to the seaward side while the sealing material redirects and stabilizes underlying sediments. This dual-action system effectively reduces hydrostatic pressure, a primary contributor to seawall instability.

A key feature of the invention is its adaptability. The injection process can be tailored to specific site conditions, with depth and material volume adjustable to ensure optimal performance. This flexibility accommodates variations in soil composition, seawall design, and environmental factors, making it a versatile tool for waterfront property owners and engineers.

Alchatek’s method is a game-changer for sustainability. By reinforcing seawalls early—within the first year of construction—this approach minimizes material waste and extends the lifespan of critical infrastructure. Coastal communities gain a cost-effective, eco-friendly solution that safeguards their investments while reducing environmental impact.

With this innovative technology, Alchatek is redefining coastal resilience, offering a proactive strategy to preserve seawalls and protect against the relentless forces of nature. This invention ensures that the front line of coastal defense remains steadfast for years to come.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?

The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
