Florida and the R&D Tax Credit
The indefinite Florida Research and Development Tax Credit is available to corporations within target industries identified by the Department of Economic Opportunity that have received a federal research credit. To apply, taxpayers must obtain a certification letter from the Department, which remains valid for three years. The credit equals ten percent of current Florida qualified research expenses exceeding the prior four year average. It is applied against corporate income tax liability but cannot exceed fifty percent of the total tax due. Any excess credit can carry forward for up to five years, though no carryback is permitted under this program.
