New Hampshire and the R&D Tax Credit
New Hampshire’s permanent Research and Development Tax Credit benefits corporations and flow-through entities with qualified manufacturing research expenses within the state. The credit amount is the lesser of ten percent of these qualifying expenditures, specifically defined as federally eligible wages, or fifty thousand dollars. This incentive is applied first against the business profits tax, while any excess offsets the business enterprise tax. Unused credits may carry forward for five years. If statewide approved credits exceed two million dollars annually, individual amounts are reduced proportionally. Applications and the required Federal Form 6765 must be submitted to NH DRA by June 30.
