Maine Patent of the Month – April 2025

Sevee & Maher Engineers, Inc. has introduced a groundbreaking method to detect and address well clogging, promising significant improvements in groundwater management. The innovation is detailed in their newly granted U.S. Patent 12,287,271, titled “Assessing and remediating well clogging from mobile particles, systems, apparatuses, and methods.”

Innovative Approach to Well Clogging

Traditional well maintenance often struggles with identifying and mitigating clogging caused by mobile particles. This new method involves maintaining a well in a quiescent state before initiating pumping, allowing for the collection of water samples during a surge in mobile particles. By analyzing the concentration of these particles, the system can assess the state of clogging within the well. This proactive approach enables timely interventions, reducing downtime and maintenance costs.

Real-World Impact on Water Resources

The patented technology offers a practical solution for industries and municipalities reliant on groundwater. By accurately assessing clogging, it enhances the efficiency and longevity of wells, ensuring a more reliable water supply. This advancement aligns with broader efforts to optimize water resource management and infrastructure resilience.

Sevee & Maher Engineers’ commitment to innovation in environmental engineering continues to drive progress in sustainable water management practices.
