Michigan Patent of the Month – November 2024
Cybernet Systems Corporation has introduced a groundbreaking transportation system that seamlessly integrates autonomous vehicles (AVs), manually operated vehicles (MVs), and pedestrians into a shared, intelligent transportation environment. Designed to enhance safety, reduce congestion, and optimize traffic flow, this system leverages advanced communication and navigation technologies to redefine mobility.
At its core, the system uses traffic control infrastructure and a network of navigation servers that communicate in real time with AVs, MVs, and pedestrians. Each vehicle and pedestrian is equipped with electronic tags or communication interfaces, enabling the system to monitor their exact positions, speeds, and movements. By collecting and analyzing this data, the servers provide vehicles with critical updates, such as nearby hazards, road closures, or updated traffic conditions.
The system’s ability to predict and manage interactions between AVs, MVs, and pedestrians is a game-changer. Using dynamic mapping and heatmaps, it identifies potential conflicts—like pedestrian crossings or vehicle lane changes—and proactively reroutes vehicles or adjusts their speeds to prevent collisions. Additionally, infrastructure updates, such as temporary speed limits or reprogrammed traffic light sequences, can be seamlessly communicated to all road users.
Notably, the system’s fail-safe features ensure reliability even during disruptions. For instance, if GPS signals are lost, the servers provide differential corrections to maintain accurate navigation. Moreover, MVs benefit from enhanced safety by integrating some of the same communication and navigation technologies as AVs, allowing them to coexist in harmony.
This invention transforms the road network into a digitally connected ecosystem where all participants cooperate to improve safety and efficiency. By bridging the gap between autonomous and human-operated vehicles, Cybernet Systems Corporation has laid the foundation for smarter, safer, and more sustainable transportation solutions for the future.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
