New Mexico Patent of the Month – January 2025
Capturing true-to-life images and video has long been a challenge for camera technology, but Contrast, Inc. has revolutionized the field with its groundbreaking HDR camera. Traditional cameras struggle to match the human eye’s ability to perceive extreme contrasts in light, often producing washed-out highlights or murky shadows. Contrast, Inc. has tackled this limitation with an innovative multi-sensor, real-time HDR imaging system that transforms the way we capture visual data.
At the heart of this invention is an advanced optical system featuring a beamsplitter that divides incoming light into separate paths, each directed toward a dedicated image sensor. These sensors capture optically identical images at varying light levels, ensuring that no detail is lost due to overexposure or underexposure. The real magic happens in the processing pipeline, where pixel values stream independently, bypassing traditional frame-based delays. A sophisticated synchronization module aligns these streams in real time, identifying and correcting saturated pixels on the fly. The result? Seamlessly merged HDR images and videos without the lag or ghosting that plagues conventional post-processing techniques.
Unlike existing HDR methods that rely on stacking multiple exposures, Contrast, Inc.’s innovation enables instantaneous, high-fidelity image synthesis. Whether for professional cinematography, security applications, or medical imaging, this technology delivers unmatched clarity and dynamic range. Additionally, the system incorporates intelligent color correction, ensuring that images remain true to life despite the spectral variations of different sensors.
By processing pixel data as it streams, rather than waiting for complete frames, Contrast, Inc. has eliminated the bottlenecks that have historically hampered HDR video. This cutting-edge approach not only enhances visual accuracy but also paves the way for real-time applications where split-second decision-making is crucial. With this invention, Contrast, Inc. has set a new benchmark for HDR imaging, bridging the gap between human vision and digital capture.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
