Medical technology is taking a major step toward health equity by addressing a long-standing flaw in patient monitoring. Huxley Medical, Inc. has secured U.S. Patent No. 12575741. This patent is titled ‘Systems and processes for detecting oxygen saturation and compensating for skin tone variation’. The innovation ensures that oxygen monitoring provides accurate data for every patient regardless of skin color.
Solving a Technical Bias
Standard oxygen sensors often struggle to provide reliable readings for patients with darker skin tones. Melanin can interfere with the light signals used to measure blood oxygen levels. This technical gap has historically led to less accurate data for diverse populations in clinical settings. The new system directly solves this problem through advanced calibration and signal processing.
Inclusive Sensor Design
The innovation uses specialized algorithms to account for skin pigmentation in real time. By adjusting for melanin interference, the device delivers precise health data for all users. This ensures that doctors can make critical medical decisions based on reliable information. The technology represents a significant shift toward more inclusive medical diagnostic tools.
Impact on Modern Healthcare
Accurate oxygen monitoring is vital for managing respiratory conditions and emergency care. This breakthrough improves the reliability of wearable patches and hospital-grade sensors alike. It removes technical barriers that have existed in medicine for decades. Equitable health tech is no longer a distant goal but a reality with these new processes.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
